St. Mary's had only 1 wrestler competing with the co-op team of O'Neill Eagles. Alex Ascherl, a senior, wrestled at the 171 spot early in the season and then moved down to be more competitive at the 160 pound weight class. Alex was one of 7 wrestlers that qualified for the State tournament held at the Omaha Quest Center . He started state competition with a deceiving 18-14 record, but after going 2 and 1 with an impressive pin, he made it known that he was there to wrestle and he could compete with anyone. During the consolation semifinals round, Alex suffered a twisted ankle. He was one match away from winning a medal.
