The St. Mary's boy's basketball team returns nine letter winners from last year's 17-4 squad. The leadership of seven seniors and six juniors paces SMH. Expectations are high coming off a state title run in football this year. The talent is good and the number of quality players is high for St. Mary's to make a back-to-back title run in football and basketball. The Cards started off slow after an extended football season and have steadily improved as the season moves on. After a 3-2 start, SMH has gone on a 4 game win streak to push their mark to 7-2 on the year and notch up a first place finish in the Stuart Holiday Tournament.

The second half of the season will be extremely challenging with all the quality opponents the Redbirds will face such as Spencer-Naper, Lynch, Elgin Pope John, Creighton, Ewing, and Stuart. The senior players to be recognized for their years of dedication to the program are Jed Givens, Dan Haggerty, Ryan Hickey, Adam Koenig, Kiel Neumann, Mike Simons, and Matt Willis.
