Good afternoon and welcome to the
weekly broadcast of St. Mary’s School News. I am Matt
Schaaf. And I am Gina Hoesing.
An all-school Mass will be held on Friday, April eleventh. The sophomore class is planning the Mass. The high school choir will sing. The induction ceremony for the newest members of the National Honor Society will take place after Mass.
Saturday, April 12th, will be a busy day for St. Mary’s students and St. Patrick’s parishoners. At eight o’clock in the morning the ACT will be held at O’Neill Public High School. The majority of the junior class will be participating in the testing on Saturday. At nine o’clock the parish work day at St. Patrick’s will begin. All students and parishioners are invited to help out with the parish spring cleaning projects in the church, at St. Mary’s schools, and the surrounding property.
Tuesday, April 15th, Spring Activity Pictures are being held at St. Mary’s High School at nine o’clock. Groups included will be the National Honor Society, academic teams, the speech team, thespians, boys’ golf, and all the track teams.
We send our good luck wishes with Crystal Dyer, Korri Isom, and Sloane Schneider as they travel to Wesleyan University in Lincoln this weekend to participate in National History Day -- Nebraska. Crystal will compete in the individual performance division; Korri has prepared an individual board for competition; and Sloane has submitted a research paper. The winners in each division at the State level travel to Washington, D.C. in June for the national competition.
Our congratulations goes out to Jordon Anderson who will be our representative at Cornhusker Girls’ State in Lincoln June first through June seventh. Jordon is a junior here at St. Mary’s and is the daughter of Pam and Ron Anderson of O’Neill.
In sports news, the junior high girls track season has begun, with almost all of the girls participating. The seventh graders who are out for track include Amber Baseggio, Torie Eby, Lacie Novak, Leah Reiman, Jordan Stevenson, and Amy Tomjack. The eighth graders participating are Meghan Boyle, Davida Butterfield, Jenna Connot, Crystal Dyer, Megan Gaughenbaugh, Ashley Kohl, Lisa Marx, Mary Peetz, Sloane Schneider, and Jacquie Stowell. The first junior high track meet is Monday, April fourteenth at Neligh. The meet will start at two p.m.
The St. Mary’s golfers were very successful at the Conference Three-Man Golf Tournament at Ainsworth last week. The team consisting of John Hurley, Jesse Peetz, and Colby Vanderbeck placed first. On Thursday the golfers will face Plainview for a dual in O’Neill starting at four o’clock. Then, on Saturday they will travel to Ord for a tournament beginning at 9:30 in the morning.
The St. Mary’s track team has had an unexpected extra week of practice. The past two track meets that had been scheduled for the Cardinals, have either been cancelled or postponed. The high school track teams did not participate in the Plainview Invitational last Friday due to the cold weather. The Knox County Meet at Creighton that was scheduled for yesterday, April eighth, was rescheduled for tomorrow due to the sudden snowstorm. The meet will start at 1:30 pm.
That’s all for our news this week. We would like to thank our sponsors this week Great Western Bank and The Clothing Company. I am Gina Hoesing. And I am Matt Schaaf. Be sure to tune in again next week at 3:10 for more St. Mary’s School News.
