School News Broadcast over KBRX

 

Hello to all KBRX listeners. I am Laura Cameron. I am Jordon Anderson. We join you from the journalism class to give you this week's St. Mary's school news.

 

In student news. The third grade class along with their teacher Mrs. Schneider are planning the all-school Mass that will be held on Friday. Mass will begin at 8:10 a.m.

 

Yesterday the eighth grade class participated in the National History Day Nebraska competition. The competition was held at Wayne State College. Students prepared papers, exhibits, and performances for this competition. In the junior division Crystal Dyer received second place for her individual performance; Korrie Isom received third place for her individual project; and Sloane Schneider received second place for her research paper. Crystal, Korrie, and Sloane will advance to the State Competition at Wesleyan University in Lincoln on April 12th. Good luck, girls!

 

There was a musical meeting yesterday after school for all those interested in being involved in the musical. Auditions will be held this week. Those interested need to sign up for tryouts with Mr. Gellerman.

The speech team traveled to Anisworth on Saturday February 22nd. Congratulations to all the speech participants but especially to Kathryn Fuchser who placed sixth in serious prose. Serenity Butterfield received a superior in humorous prose. The duet team of Kathryn Fuchser and Emily Dugan received a superior. The duet team of Serenity Butterfield and Sarah Novak received a superior. The Oral Interpretation of Drama team of Jordon Anderson, Megan Davis, Emily Dugan, and Kathryn Fuchser received a superior. And the OID team of Serenity Butterfield, Brooke Lindhorst, Sarah Novak, and Christina Reynoldson received a superior. The team will travel to Creighton on Friday for a speech meet that starts at 3:00 p.m.

 

This week's senior profile is on Joel Peterson. Joel is the son of Jeff and Mary Jo Peterson of O'Neill. He is eighteen years old and has attended St. Mary's for thirteen years. This year Joel is involved in track. In his spare time he likes to work on cars. After graduation, Joel plans to go to college in Wyoming and major in custom fabrication.

 

On to sports. During the D2 sub-district basketball competition the Lady Cardinals traveled to West Holt last Thursday, February twentieth, to face the Stuart Lady Broncos. The Lady Cards were defeated with a score of 38-54. The Lady Cardinals finished their season with a record of 13 and 10.

 

The varsity boys played the Pope John Crusaders at Elgin last Friday and lost with a score of 78-72. The junior varsity ended their season with a win over Pope John. Their final record was 11-4. In D-2 sub-district action the varsity boys took on the Stuart Broncos last night at Atkinson West Holt and won with a score of 55-43. Tomorrow the boys will play Lynch in the final round of sub-district action at the Atkinson West Holt gym at 7:30 p.m.

 

The varsity wrestlers completed their season at the State Wrestling Meet on February twentieth and twenty-first. Tyler Cole competed in the 119-pound weight class and finished with one win and two losses. He finished the season with a record of 28-6.

Tim Krugman competed in the 215-pound weight class and also finished with one win and two losses. Congratulations to Tim and Tyler on a great season!
