Good afternoon. I am Gina Hoesing. And I am Emily Walnofer. We are here again to bring you more of your St. Mary's Cardinal news.

The junior class planned the Mass that was held this morning. The high school choir sang.

This Saturday, February 22nd, the speech team will travel to Ainsworth. Eleven students will participate in the different events. \

The Student Council hosted the Sweetheart Dance on Saturday, February fifteenth. Freshman attendants were Katie Fletcher and Charles Shields; sophomore attendants were Rachael Gray and Justin Kruse; junior attendants were Emily Dugan and Nick Welding, and senior attendants were Kristen Carr and Matt Willis. Crown bearers were Molly Atkeson and Zachary Novak. The 2003 Sweetheart King and Queen were Mike Simons and Brooke Earley. Last year's king and queen, Chris Bahrij and Sara Kelley, returned to crown the royalty.

And the 2003 Marian Yearbook Staff will be closing their orders for the Fall Yearbook. If you are one of the few who hasn't yet ordered your yearbook, stop in Room 103 and talk to Mrs. Troshynski.

This week's senior profile is on Lyle Berryman. He is the grandson of Mary Edwards of Ewing. Lyle has attended St. Mary's for two years. He transferred from Ewing Public High School at the beginning of his junior year. This year Lyle was involved in one-acts. In his spare time, he likes to skateboard. After graduation, Lyle plans to attend a six-year college and major in chiropractics.

In sports news, the junior varsity girls basketball team finished their season last Friday against the Chambers Lady Coyotes. Unfortunately the girls lost in overtime by a score of 34 to 36. The junior varsity girls finish with a record of 3-5.

The varsity wrestlers are preparing for the most important meet of the season. Tyler Cole and Tim Krugman will be competing at the State Wrestling Meet beginning tomorrow, February twentieth, and continuing through Saturday, February twenty-second, after qualifying at the District meet last weekend. Tyler Cole will be competing in the 121-pound weight class and Tim Krugman will be competing in the 215-pound weight class. Congratulations and good luck at State, Tim and Tyler! 

The Lady Cardinal Varsity basketball team traveled to Chambers Friday night, February fourteenth, to defeat the Lady Coyotes with a score of 55 to 49. Leading scorers were Laura Cameron with eighteen points and two rebounds, Christine Troshynski with ten points and nine rebounds and Kara Garman and Lindsey Kallhoff with nine points each. The Lady Cards' record is 12 and 9.

The Lady Cardinals traveled to Atkinson last night for the D2 Sub-districts. The Cards faced the Butte Wildcats and defeated them with a score of 54 to 42. The Lady Cards Record is 13-9. The Cards will then move on to face the Stuart Lady Broncos which will be held on Thursday February twentieth. The games will begin at 7:30 at the West Holt High School gymnasium in Atkinson.

The Cardinal varsity boys basketball team traveled to Chambers and pounded the Coyotes 82-30. Friday the junior varsity and varsity squads will travel to Elgin to take on the Pope John Crusaders with action starting at 6:30. The pairings for the Sub District will be announced Thursday.

  Aside from school activities, our students have shared in the concern and pride for the individuals from our community and surrounding communities who have been deployed to participate in the defense of our nation and international disarmament.. We want the soldiers and their families to know that our prayers are with them.
