Good afternoon. I'm
Kathryn Fuchser. And I am Emily Walnofer. Let's take a look at the
upcoming activities happening at St. Mary's this week.
The high school Mass will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. The eighth graders are planning the Mass. Fr. Gregory Baxter of Omaha will be here to give a guest sermon about vocations.
The Journalism II students are currently selling the 2002-2003 yearbooks. The sale is going on from now until February thirteenth. The cost is thirty-two dollars for an unpersonalized yearbook and thirty-six dollars for a personalized yearbook.
The junior class will be hosting a potato bar during the basketball games with Butte on February eleventh. The cost will be three dollars for a potato with unlimited toppings and a dessert bar. The money raised will go to the junior class prom fund.
The senior class will be taking reorders for State Championship shirts. They will be selling the T-shirts and long sleeved T-shirts. See any member of the senior class for more information.
The senior class is raffling off one half of a beef to raise money for their senior trip. Tickets are one for $5 or three for $10. The drawing will be held March fifteenth during the Mulligan Stew.
This week's senior profile is on Mike Simons. He is the son of Joe and Theresa Simons. He is eighteen years old and has attended St. Mary's for twelve years. This year
Mike is involved in football, basketball, and track. In his spare time he likes to run, fly, and cook. After high school Mike plans to attend college.
The speech team traveled to Stuart Saturday, February 1st. Ten students participated. Kylie Ludemann and Justin Kruse each participated in two categories. Kathryn Fuchser, Sarah Novak, and Serenity Butterfield had individual events. Congratulations to Serenity Butterfield, who received a superior in humorous prose; Sarah Novak and Serenity Butterfield, who received a superior rating in duet acting.
Also congratulations to Emily Dugan and Kathryn Fuchser for placing sixth in duet acting. The OID team of Serenity Butterfield, Brooke Lindhorst, Sarah Novak, and Christina Reynoldson placed fourth. The OID team of Jordon Anderson, Megan Davis, Emily Dugan, and Kathryn Fuchser placed third. The next speech meet is February 22nd.
The SMH cheerleaders will be hosting Parents Night on February eleventh during the home games against the Butte Wildcats. All parents will be recognized and thanked between the Varsity girls and the Varsity boys basketball games.
Congratulations to the junior high boys' basketball team for their win over Inman last Thursday. They will play this Friday, February seventh, in Spencer at 6:30.
The varsity wrestlers competed at the Albion Invitational on Saturday, February first. Tyler Cole finished second in the 119-pound weight class, and Tim Krugman placed third in the 215-pound weight class. The next varsity wrestling meet is the Rangeland Conference Meet at Ainsworth tomorrow. There is also a meet on February eighth in Grand Island.
During the Niobrara Valley Conference tournament the Lady Cardinals defeated the Butte Lady Wildcats with a score of 45 to 37. Leading scorers were Christine Troshynski with twenty points and Kara Garman with nine points.
The Cardinals then faced the Chambers Coyotes. The Cardinals took the Coyotes into overtime and defeated them with a score of 42 to 40. Leading scorers were Laura Cameron with thirteen points and Christine Troshynski and Kara Garman with ten points each.
Last Saturday night the varsity boys basketball team defeated the Santee Warriors in the first round of the Niobrara Valley Conference tournament.
The boys then faced the Spencer-Naper Pirates this past Monday and lost with the score of 54-49.
With being eliminated from the NVC tournament the Cardinals' next game will be at O'Neill, Tuesday February eleventh, with marathon play starting at 3:30.
