Mary's weekly news.
In student news... The eighth grade class will plan the Mass for the high school that will be held tomorrow morning. The grade school will hold their weekly Mass on Friday at 8:10a.m.
Congratulations to seventh grader, Colin Campbell, the 2003 Geography Bee winner for St. Mary's. Also congradtulations to Davida Butterfield who is the runner-up in St. Mary's 2003 Geography Bee. Colin is eligible to compete against other Nebraska students in the State Contest on April 4th.
O'Neill Junior High is hosting a dance for junior high students at the OHS gym this Friday from 7- 9:00 p.m. Cost is $3.00.
Mrs. Atkeson held a meeting for the 2003 speech team. The first speech meet is February 1st at Stuart.
Now let's meet this weeks senior. This week's senior profile is on Staci Givens. She is seventeen years old and has attended St. Mary's for twelve years. This year Staci is involved in volleyball, track, and cheerleading. In her spare time she likes to play sports. After graduation Staci plans to attend Nebraska Wesleyan. Her major is undecided.
In sports news... On Saturday, January eleventh, the eighth grade girls placed third at the Butte Booster Club Basketball Tournament. They first faced Butte and were defeated. Their next game was against the Spencer-Naper Lady Pirates, where they came out victorious to earn the third place finish.
Monday, January 13th, was the start of the junior high boy's basketball season. The B team lost to the Ewing Tigers with the final score, 13-23. The A team had a great come-back game with the final score being 44-37.

This Saturday, January 18th, the junior high boys will travel to Stuart to participate in a tournament. Their first game is against Spencer. The games will start at one o'clock p.m.
In junior varsity wrestling, there was only one meet last week. Shane Isom traveled to Burwell on January tenth and won his only match in the 160-pound weight class.
The varsity wrestlers participated in the David City tournament on January eleventh. Tyler Cole placed first in the 119-pound weight class. Tim Krugman also participated in this meet. The next varsity meet is at Boone Central tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. There is also a varsity wrestling meet in Elkhorn at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday January eighteenth.
Last Friday the junior varsity Lady Cards fell to the Pope John Lady Crusaders 42-28. The junior varsity girls will face Spencer-Naper on Friday, January seventeenth at five p.m. The junior varsity girls are currently 1-2.
The Lady Cardinals traveled to Elgin on Friday, January tenth, to take on the Lady Crusaders. The Cardinals were defeated with a score of 23-45.
Then the Cardinals went on to face the Lady Indians from Keya Paha on Saturday, January eleventh. The Lady Cards defeated the Indians 51-16. The leading scorers were Christine Troshynski with fourteen points and eighteen rebounds, Michelle Shoemaker with eight points and one rebound, Lindsey Kallhoff with six points and four rebounds, and Kristen Carr with six points and five rebounds.
The Lady Cardinals will play the Ewing Lady Tigers tomorrow night, January sixteenth, at St. Mary's. The games will begin at five o'clock. Then on Friday the Lady Cards take on the Lady Pirates at Spencer-Naper. The games will begin at five o'clock.
The varsity boy's basketball team defeated the Keya Paha Indians last Saturday with a score of 81 to 27. Tomorrow night the junior varsity boys and varsity boys will host the Tigers of Ewing with action starting at 5:00 p.m. On Friday the varsity boys will travel to Spencer-Naper to challenge the defending class D-1 Champions.
