Season’s greetings from St. Mary’s. I am Laura Cameron. I am

Matt Schaaf. Today will be our last broadcast for the year 2002.

 

Let’s take a look at some student activities this week.

During this season of giving, the SMH Student Council has been

working with Central Nebraska Community Services to provide Christmas

gifts for a local needy family.

 

 

This week St. Mary’s junior high and high school students have been

studying for and taking their semester exams. The semester ends this

Friday.

 

The third graders are planning the all-school Mass that will be held

Friday morning at 8:10 a.m. Then a candle lighting ceremony will be held

at one p.m. on Friday. The history of the advent wreath will be mentioned.

Fr. Lape, Fr. Olsen, Mrs. Conradt, teachers, and students will lead prayers

and readings. Each class will have representatives with candles. The

students will also sing Christmas carols.

Then on Friday, December 20th, St. Mary’s students will be

dismissed at 1: 30 for the Holiday Season. Classes will resume on January

6th.

 

This week’s senior profile is on Kristen Carr. She is the daughter of

Roy and Carolyn Carr of O’Neill. Kristen is seventeen years old. She has

attended St. Mary’s for twelve years. Kristen is involved in volleyball,

basketball, cheerleading, and FBLA. In her spare time, she likes to play

sports, hang out with friends, and watch television. After high school,

Kristen plans to attend a university and focus on a career in dentistry.

 

SLEEP! That’s all the one-act cast and crew is thinking about. Last

Thursday December 12, the cast and crew left O’Neill at five in the

morning to attend State One Act Competition. The one-act, A Doctor In

Spite of Himself, placed fourth out of six one act plays. Will Dougherty and

Laura Cameron were recognized as outstanding performers.

Congratulations goes out to Ms. Goettertz, Merri Schneider, and the

one-act cast and crew for a terrific job at State.

 

In sports news tomorrow, Thursday, December nineteenth, the junior

high Lady Cardinals will play their last regular season basketball game.

They will play at Page with games starting at 6:30.

 

On Saturday, December fourteenth, the varsity wrestlers traveled to

Newman-Grove. Tyler Cole placed first in the 125-pound weight class.

Shane Isom particpated in the JV Merna Invite on Saturday also.

 

There was also a JV meet in Valentine yesterday. Shane Isom

participated.

 

The next JV wrestling meet is tomorrow at Norfolk. There is a also a

varsity meet tomorrow, with O’Neill hosting Neligh for a dual. There will

also be a varsity meet on Saturday, December twenty-first, in Valentine.

 

On Friday December thirteenth, the Lady Cardinals faced the Elgin

Eagles and were defeated with a score of 49-60. Leading in offense and

defense were Christine Troshynski with twelve points and seventeen

rebounds, Laura Cameron with fourteen points and three rebounds, and

Kristen Carr with eight points and four rebounds.

On Tuesday, December seventeenth, the Cardinals traveled to Neligh

and were defeated/ came out victorious with a score of 61-44. Leading

scorers were Lindsey Kallhoff with eighteen and Kristen Carr and Christine

Troshynski with six each. Their record is 1-4.

On Friday December twentieth, the Lady Cards will face the Rock

County Tigers at home. The marathon games will start at 4:00.

 

The Cardinal varsity boys basketball team hosted the Elgin Eagles

last Friday and defeated the Eagles with the score of 77-31. The Cardinals

then traveled to Neligh yesterday and lost to the Warriors 61-60. The junior

varsity squad defeated the Elgin Eagles 41-40. Then they played Neligh

Oakdale and won 40-32. The Cardinals will host the Rock County Tigers on

Friday. With Junior varsity and Varsity action. The Varsity boys will then

travel to Stuart on December 27 and 28 for the Stuart Holiday tournment.

The teams that will compete will be the Stuart Broncos, the Rock County

Tigers, the Butte Wildcats, and the St.Mary’s Cardinals.
