KBRX School News
December 4, 2002

Good afternoon. I am Kathryn Fuchser. And I am Gina Hoesing. We

thank you for joining us this afternoon for this week’s broadcast of St.

Mary’s High School Cardinal news.

Topping the news this afternoon is the success of the St. Mary’s

one-act play cast and crew. Congratulations are in order for Director

Jennifer Goettertz and Assistant Director Merri Schneider and their large

cast and crew, who yesterday were announced District D1-4 Champions for

their production of Aurand Harris’s adaptation of Moliere’s one-act play, A

Doctor In Spite Of Himself. Thirty SMH students participated in the

production of the play either as cast members or technical crew members.

And seven schools -- St. Mary’s, Rock County, Stuart, Spencer-Naper,

Orchard, Elgin, and Elgin Pope John --competed in the district contest.

Pope John received district runner-up honors. Individual acting honors for

St. Mary’s went to Will Dougherty, Laura Cameron, and Kathryn Fuchser.

The St. Mary’s one-act play now advances to the State level for

competition in Kearney on Thursday, December twelfth.

In liturgical news the monthly Benediction services are being held

this afternoon at three o’clock in the church. An all-school Mass will be

held this Friday morning, December sixth, at 8:10 to celebrate the feast of

St. Nicholas, the patron of children. And then on Monday, December

ninth, an all-school Mass will be celebrated for the holy day of the

Immaculate Conception.

St. Mary’s students in grades seven through twelve collected 350

items of canned foods and personal hygiene products during National

Homeless Awareness Week. The items were donated to the homeless and

hungry. The freshman class donated the most items and will receive a

subway sandwich meal for their efforts.

In class news the senior class is selling State football championship

T-shirts, long-sleeved T-shirts, sweatshirts, and hooded sweatshirts.

This week’s senior profile is on Brooke Earley. She is the daughter of Tom and

Vicki Earley of O’Neill. Brooke is seventeen years old. She has attended St. Mary’s for

thirteen years. This year Brooke is involved in volleyball, drill team, cheerleading, track,

and mock trial. In her spare time she likes to hang out with friends, watch television, play

sports, and chat on MSN. Brooke’s plans after high school are undecided.

Congratulations goes out to Adam Koenig, Dan Haggerty, Mike Simons, and Kiel

Neumann for making the first team D-2 Football All-State team in the Lincoln Journal

Star. Also congratulations goes out to Mike Simons and Kiel Neumann for being selected

honorary captains of the D-2 All-State Team.

Congratulations goes out to Christine Troshynski and Laura Cameron for their

efforts in volleyball. Laura was given honorable mention and Christine was selected for

the All-Area Class D Volleyball Team by the Norfolk Daily News. Christine led St.

Mary’s with 243 kills this season and 87 blocks. She also had 109 digs and 16 ace serves

in her final season. Coach Gettertz said Christine was an “aggressive middle hitter who

never (gave) up.”
