Good afternoon. I am Emily Walnofer. And I am Matt Schaaf. We

are here again this week to keep you updated on your SMH Cardinal news.

 

Last week was National Homeless and Awareness week. SMH class

members brought canned food and personal hygiene products to donate

to the cause. The ___________ brought the most items to donate to the

homeless. The ____________ will receive a Subway sandwich meal and a

jeans day for their class.

 

The second grade with the help of their teacher Mrs. Cameron

planned the all-school Mass that was held this morning. The Mass was

devoted to remembering all the people in our lives for whom we are

thankful. Collections from the November high school Masses are being

sent to the Catholic Relief Services for the poor and the hungry of the

world.

 

This afternoon the grade school and high school were dismissed at

1:30 p.m. due to Thanksgiving vacation. Classes will resume at the regular

time Monday morning, December second.

 

The St. Mary’s High School choir attended the Niobrara Valley

Conference Choral Clinic at Butte on Monday, November twenty-fifth.

Students going to the clinic included Christina Reynoldson, Sarah Novak,

Serenity Butterfield, Lacie Novak, and Ashley Kohl. The choir is directed by

Clarke Gellerman.

 

 

 

 

The one-act play cast presented their play, “A Doctor in Spite of

HImself,” to the student body this afternoon. The next performance will be

at District competition here at St. Mary’s High School next Tuesday,

December second. Classes will not be held for students on Tuesday.

 

Students are selling the Shamrock Prize-A-Day Calendars. This

project helps out with the programs offered at St. Mary’s School.

 

This week we profile senior Ryan Hickey. Ryan is the son of Tom and

Shirley Hickey of O’Neill. He is eighteen years old and has attended St.

Mary’s all his life. Ryan is involved in football, basketball, and track. In

his spare time he likes to sit around. After high school, Ryan plans to

attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. His major is undecided.

 

On Monday the junior high girls’ basketball teams traveled to

Atkinson to challenge the Balers on the basketball court. The young Lady

Cardinals were defeated in both games. The seventh grade fell 7 to 14 and

the eighth grade girls lost 15 to 28.

Yesterday, November twenty-sixth, the junior high girls basketball

teams faced the Ewing Tigers at home. The seventh grade won/lost with a

score of _____-_____. The eighth grade prevailed/was defeated with a score

of _____-_____. The seventh graders record is ____-____, and the eighth

grade record is ____-____.

On Monday, December second, the junior high Lady Cardinals will

face the Lady Balers of Atkinson at SMH. Games will begin at 6:30.

 

 

The junior high wrestlers have had a busy schedule. They

competed at the Neligh meet on November fourteenth and at the O’Neill

Invitational meet on the nineteenth. Aaron Chohon competed in the

76-pound weight class at both meets, while Trevor Nichols competed in the

100-pound weight class.

At the Neligh meet Aaron finished in second place, while Trevor

ended the day with a record of one and one. Aaron placed third at the

O’Neill Invitational, and Trevor improved his record to two and two. Their

next junior high wrestling meet is December third at Boone Central.

 

 

Several St. Mary’s high school students participated in a cooperative

OHS wrestle-off last night at six p.m. This exhibition helped to determine

the members of the varsity wrestling team, and it served as a practice

meet for the O’Neill High School Tournament set for Saturday, December

seventh. Tyler Cole, Tim Krugman, Shane Isom, Marcus Zakrzewski, and

Dan Ascherl tried out for the varsity positions.

 

Congratulations to the St. Mary’s football team on beating the

Lindsay Holy Family Bulldogs 22-8. The Cardinals traveled to Lincoln on

Thursday to face the Bulldogs at Memorial Stadium and proved that no

other team in Class D-2 was better than they. The Cardinals entered the

year ranked number one in the State. The team finished the season with a

record of 13-0 and first in the State of Nebraska in Class D-2 foortball!
