Good afternoon.  Welcome to our weekly broadcast of St. Mary’s School News.  I am Jordon Anderson and I am Gina Hoesing.

Well, Jordon, let’s take a look at what has happened this past week!  A Veterans’ Day program was held on Monday November 11th at St. Mary’s High School gym.  Students from O’Neill Public and St. Mary’s Junior and Senior High Schools listened to speakers and musical talents.  St. Mary’s Student Council President Matt Willis spoke on the history of the flag, and Student Council Vice President Michelle Shoemaker gave us some background on World War II.  A special tribute was given to SMH alumnus Madeline Ullom who served as a nurse during World War II.

The eighth graders planned the Mass that was held this morning.  The junior high girls sang for this Mass.

Students from Advanced Math and Calculus classes will leave tomorrow at 4 a.m. for UNL Math Day.  Mr. Bahrij is sponsoring the trip.

On Tuesday, November 19th, the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students will be participating in the American Math Contest starting at 9 a.m.

_________, what’s going on with the senior class?

Well on Friday, November fifteenth, the seniors will meet with Jostens to order

graduation announcements.  While we are on the subject of seniors lets take a peek at this week’s senior profile.

This week’s senior profile is on Jed Givens.  Jed is the son of Mike and Liz Givens of O’Neill.   Jed is seventeen years old.  He has attended St. Mary’s for thirteen years.  This year Jed is involved in football, basketball, track, and FBLA.  In his spare time he likes to read, watch television, and play video games.  After high school Jed plans to attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and major in biology or premortuary science.

The fall sports season is coming to an end.  The junior high is getting ready for their winter sports season.

Several junior high boys are ready to begin their wrestling season.  Aaron Chohon, Trevor Nichols, and Alex Ascherl will participate in their first meet on Thursday, November fourteenth, at Neligh.    They will then host a home meet at O’Neill High School on November nineteenth.

The junior high girls’ basketball season begins this Tuesday, November nineteenth.  St. Mary’s will host Neligh-Oakdale with games starting at six.

In high school sports the Lady Cardinal volleyball team ended their season with a record of 15-8.  The final game of the year was held in Burwell on Friday,  November eighth, against the Lady Bluejays from Elba.  The Cards were defeated with the scores of 4-15 and 12-15.  We would like to congratulate the St. Mary’s volleyball team on an excellent year!

The Cardinal football team is looking good on their way to the State championship.  The now 11-0 Cardinals hosted the Twin Valley Rebels last Wednesday and defeated the Rebels 46-14. The Cardinals then traveled to Sargent this past Monday for State quarter final action and defeated the Bulldogs 46-0. The Cardinals will host an eager Mullen team this Saturday at three o’clock in State football semifinal competition.

      Good luck, Cardinals!

That’s our news this week.  Remember to come out to the O’Neill football field on Saturday at three o’clock and cheer the Cardinals on in bid for a trip to Lincoln.

We want to thank you for joining us this afternoon.  Also a special thanks goes out to ____________________________________________ for sponsoring our news today.  I am Jordon Anderson.  And I am Gina Hoesing.  Join us again next week for more news from St. Mary’s High School.
