Good afternoon. I am Kiel Neumann. And I am Kristen Carr. Welcome back to

teachers’ meeting at 7:45. The St. Mary’s faculty and staff will have their annual

Christmas party this Saturday, December 15, at the KC Hall, which is preceded

with Mass at 5:00 p.m.

This week the kindergarten children have been very busy. First of

all Isaac Ascherl had a new baby sister and the Ascherls named her Teresa

Marie. But that was just the start of the week for the kindergarten children. They

have been getting ready for the holidays by decorating their classroom

Christmas tree and making Christmas stables out of toothpicks. The children

have been very busy learning about the letter I. The kindergarten through sixth

grade elementary students have been practicing for the grade school Christmas

program scheduled for tonight at 7 o’clock in the high school gym.

Mrs. Cameron’s second grade class will be singing a song titled “Little Tiny

Miracle.” The second graders are very excited about singing tonight. We wish

all of the elementary students good luck in their performance.

The eighth grade held an art show in the grade school gym last

night to deisplay their semester art work.

The Freshmen Class have been working hard in every class they

attend. Reporter Michael Jeffrey said the Freshmen that are in Art I class

The Senior Class have been evaluating their options on where to go for

the senior trip in the spring. They are also working on graduation plans. They

have chosen their class colors of Cardinal and Silver and have been measured

for their caps and gowns. And most importantly, seniors are taking ACT’s,

scheduling college visits and making decisions on post-secondary education

plans!

In sports the Junior High Lady Cardinal basketball team took a trip to

Creighton on Monday. The seventh grade took a loss with a score of 15-18.

The eighth grade also came home with a devastating loss, 22-25. The girls’ next

game is tomorrow at home against Page; the game starts at 6:30. Come out and

support the girls.

The St. Mary’s boys wrestling team has been busy this past week. Last Saturday,

the boys traveled to Newman Grove where they faired very well. Only two of the four

boys wrestled on Saturday, but both boys ended the day with medals. Junior Dan Ascherl

wrestled three matches during the day and won all three. Dan wrestles in the 130 pound

weight bracket and is 6-1 on the season. Sophomore Tyler Cole finished the day with a

second place medal. Tyler wrestled two matches on Saturday and won one match and lost

the other. Tyler wrestles in the 119 pound weight bracket and he is 2-2 on the season.

Last night the wrestlers stayed home to host Burwell in a duel here in O’Neill.

Aaron Troester was the only wrestler for St. Mary’s because Burwell didn’t have any

wrestlers in the other boys’ weight divisions and they drew byes. Aaron wrestled one

match and won it. Aaron wrestles in the 140-pound weight division.

The boys will travel next to Neligh tomorrow, December 13 and to Valentine on

Saturday for the Valentine Invitational Wrestling meet that starts at 10 a.m.. We wish the

wrestling boys good luck in their upcoming matches.

The ladies now are 2-3 on the season as they head to Bassett on Friday for

marathon with a four-o’clock tip-off followed by the junior varsity boys basketball

game. The varsity girls will play at six o’clock and the varsity boys take the court

at eight o’clock. The team bus lealves schools at 2:30 on Friday.

The St. Mary’s Cardinal Boys basketball team won games on Friday and

Tuesday to improve their record to 5-0. The Cardinals took on the Elgin Eagles
