Good afternoon. I am Michael Jeffrey. And I am Mike Simons.

Thank you for joining us on KBRX this windy afternoon as we bring you this week’s news from St. Mary’s High School.

This morning Fr. Mark Filips celebrated the High School Mass which

was planned by Sister Anita and ministered by the junior class. Jed Givens

gave the readings for the day and Adam Koenig read the petitions. The

freshman and sophomore girls sang in the choir accompanied by Sr. Anita.

And seniors Joe Pongratz, Chris Bahrij and Katie Cameron along with Mrs.

Isom and Mr. Bahrij served as EME’s.

The next Mass will be an all-school Mass next Thursday, November

1, to celebrate All-Saints Day.

 

The two SMH Mock Trial teams traveled to Basset today for third

round competition. The Red team met O’Neill High School. The next

competition will be at the courthouse in O’Neill on Friday.

 

This past Friday, October 19, was the end of the first quarter of

school. This coming Monday, October 29, parent-teacher conferences will

be held at the St. Mary’s high school for grades seven through twelve from

4-8:00 p.m..

 

The sixth grade class has been diligently working on their Halloween

play titled “The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street”. The play will be held

in St. Mary’s Grade School Gym tonight, October 24, at 8:00. Come and

watch an excellent performance!

 

Retake pictures from Life Touch Studios have been scheduled for

Tuesday, October 30, at 8:30 a.m. Make sure that you’re ready for

pictures is you did not get them taken in September OR if you need to have

your picture taken again!

 

The St. Mary’s Cardinal varsity volleyball team traveled to Ewing last

Thursday, October 18, and suffered an unfortunate loss 6-15, 15-10, 8-15.

 

In the Niobrara Valley Conference Volleyball Tournament which

began on Monday, October 22, the Lady Cardinals defeated the Stuart

Broncos in two games, 15-1 and 17-15.

They then defeated the Chambers Coyotes in two games, 15-7 and

15-11 in the west regional conference match which was also played on

Monday night at Chambers.

The Lady Cardinals then traveled to Elgin Pope John for the the

semi-final conference play-offs against the top-seated and number one

state ranked Wheeler Central Broncos. The Lady Cardinals won the first

game 15-13, but then fell to the Broncoes, 15-5 and 15-5.

The Lady Cardinal volleyball team, 10-8 on the season, will face

Verdigre in the NVC finals tomorrow night at 6:30 as they compete for

third place in the fifteen-team conference tournament.

 

Subdistrict play for the Lady Cardinals begins next Monday, October

29, at West Holt High School in Atkinson. Teams in our sub-district

include Keya Paha, Stuart, Butte, Lynch, and Chambers. Come on out and

support the Lady Cardinals in some very good volleyball action!

Last Thursday the Cardinal varsity football team traveled to Ewing to

take on the Tigers. The Cardinals dominated the whole game and ended it

early with a score of 48-0. The Cardinals gained 430 yards of total offense

and held the Tigers to just 123 yards. Ryan Hickey led the team in rushing

with 119 yards on six carries with one touchdown. Mike Simons was five

for eleven passing for 75 yards and three touchdowns. Matt Willis had

three receptions for 52 yards and two touchdowns. Kiel Neumann led the

defense with 17 tackles and one interception. The Cardinal record is now

6-2.

Tomorrow the Cardinals will take on the Chambers Coyotes for the

D2-6 District championship. Kick off is set for 4:30 at Chambers!
