Good afternoon this is Amanda Davis and Kayla Ryan with this week's segment of St. Mary's school news.

I'm sure that all students, and teachers for that matter, will be happy to know that Friday marks the half-way mark of the fourth, and final quarter of the 2000-2001 school year. This mid-term also includes our Church's most sacred week, Holy Week. We began this special prelude of our Lord's death by putting on a representation of Jesus' passion last Sunday--Palm Sunday. The sixth graders will perform a Passion Play for the public tonight (Wednesday April 11th)at 7:30 p.m. and tomorrow morning (Thursday, April 12th) at 8:30 a.m. The grade school and high school will dismiss tomorrow (Thursday) at 1:30 p.m. for Easter break as well. School resumes on Tuesday, april 17th at the regular time.

Special thanks goes out to all the people who came and watched our musical production of 'Calamity Jane.' The play was a great success and we appreciate all those who helped us get the show off the ground. Mrs. Jonas said "Congratulations to the cast and crew for doing a great job!"

The music department is not quite as busy since the musical is over, but it isn't obsolete. The district music contest will be at Ainsworth on Friday, April 20, 2001. The SMH band , Christine Troshynski with an oboe solo, and Liz Ascherl with a vocal solo will all compete in the district contest.

In the cheerleading department tryouts will be held tonight at six o'clock in the high school gym.

Students in grades seven through eleven can pick up applications for scholarship forms in the front office. These applications are due before Friday, April 20th.

Also as prom approaches, the juniors and seniors can purchase post prom tickets for themselves and their dates at the office. These tickets need to be purchased by next Wednesday, April 18th.

The SMH Cardinals tracksters have a good feel of what the season will bring. With three track meets under their belts and many practices, the SMH track men and women are eager to be in the heart of their season. Their next meet is the O'Neill Invite featuring both C and D class schools. The meet is tomorrow, April 12th. The running and the field events both start at 9:00 am. KBRX will be giving updates throughout the day.

Also the junior high track team traveled to Neligh on Monday afternoon for a quadrangular. Their next meet is next Tuesday, April 17th at Noon at the O'Neill Invitational.

The O'Neill golf team traveled to Plainview for a dual last Thursday. The Varsity team won 167-180. Jesse Peetz shot a 44. The Reserves tied Plainview 202-202. Nathan Eby shot a 47. The C team lost the dual 231-207. Tyson Chohon shot a 49 and Tom Fletcher a 62.

On Saturday the Junior Varsity team placed at the Plainview Invitational and the Varsity team placed at the Ord Invitational.

This morning's Ewing Invitational game was postponed until tomorrow, April 12th. The Junior Varsity golf team, which includes Nathan Eby and Tyson Chohon, will leave at 7 a.m. with a 9 o'clock tee-off time. Jesse Peetz will travel with the varsity team tomorrow to the Albion Invitational which also has a 9 o'clock tee-off time. The bus leaves at 6:30.

Twenty-two northeast Nebraska schools met at Northeast Community College in Norfolk yesterday to participate in the annual Senior High School Academic Quiz Bowl. St. Mary's team of Bill Troshynski, Marian Carr, Britt Chohon, Holly Sukup, and Mary Crumly went up against Norfolk Senior High School in the second round of the day after Norfolk defeated Ewing. The Cards lost a gallant match.
