SMH KBRX School News

Wednesday January 24, 2001

Hello. This is Monica Marx and Katie Cameron with an interesting tidbit of St.

Mary’s news.

Kelli Reynoldson, the senior spotlighted for this week, is 17-years old and has

attended St. Mary’s for 13 years. Kelli is the daughter of Pat and Laura Reynoldson of

O’Neill. Earlier this year Kelli participated in volleyball and One-Acts. Currently she

is involved in cheerleading, National Honor Society, the Musical, FBLA, and choir.

Her favorite activity is volleyball. Kelli is the senior class student council

representative. After graduation she plans to attend either the University of Nebraska

in Lincoln or Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska. She would like to major in

nursing.

It is a busy time of year for the seniors, who seem to be handling the many

activities and responsibilities very well. Some of the things that the class of 2001 has

going on include preparing for their class trip, making graduation plans, and trying to

gather food orders before the February 9 deadline. Also, senior pictures for the

yearbook and composite are due by February 1, and the date for the senior class trip to

Chicago is set for March 24-26.

Last Thursday, January 18th, our Junior High Boys basketball team hosted a

game against Atkinson. They accepted a loss of 21 to 19.

An all-school mass was held on Friday, in which the grade school and high

school were able to celebrate a mass to end our mid-January week.

That night the Cardinals played marathon games against Stuart. On Friday,

the 19th, the Lady Cards defeated Stuart. They were a bit lethargic but pulled it out in

the end. The final score was 34-31. The Junior Varsity girls played the Broncos as

well. They had a rough start, and couldn’t quite snatch the win. The score was 18-31.

To complete the busy week-end, the team traveled to Lynch on Saturday. The Junior

Varsity Cardinals started out the night by winning, 30-14. The Varsity girls had a

tougher game than expected, but they won the match 33-26.

When the varsity boys basketball team went up against the Stuart Broncos last

Friday they came up with their third loss of the season. The final score was 49 to 56.

They then traveled to Lynch on Saturday and won with a score of 75 to 60. The JV

boys basketball team also lost to Stuart last Friday with a score of 36 to 34. They then

played two quarters against the Lynch Eagles and won with a score of 33 to 26.

With a look at the dramatic side of activities, St. Mary’s speech team opened

their season Saturday, January 20, when ten of the 21 member team competed in the

Albion Invitational, one of the largest meets they attend. Varsity medalists were

Ashley Braun, second in Oral Interpretation of Humorous Prose and Britt Chohon,

sixth in Informative Speaking. Novice (first year) medalists were Jordan Anderson,

Laura Cameron, Emily Dugan, Kathryn Fuchser and Kylie Ludemann who placed third

in Oral Interpretation of Drama.

Also on Saturday, the St. Mary’s wrestlers on the O’Neill team did very well in

their meet. Tyler Cole placed first, and has a record of 12 and 8. Tim Krugman

team is tomorrow, Thursday the 25, here in O’Neill, in a dual with Creighton.

Our Junior High boys teams battled with the Chambers Coyotes on Monday the

22nd, and came out on top with a final score of 14 to 9.

The Jr. High girls participated in the Ewing Tournament on Monday the 22nd.

They were defeated in the games against both Ewing and Clearwater.

Last night the Cards traveled to Creighton to take on the Bulldogs in JV Boys

and Varsity girls and boys basketball. The JV boys finished with a score just short of

victory, 23 - 37 . The Varsity girls played hard and completed the game with a score

of 53 - 42. The Varsity boys played a well fought game that went into overtime. They

came up a bit short and lost with a score of 63 - 66. The teams played well and are

now preparing for the NVC tournament at Keya Paha. The games will be this weekend

beginning on Saturday. First is the Varsity Boys at 6:30 with the bus leaving at 3:30.

They will be going up against Lynch for their first game. The Varsity girls then follow

the boys at 8:00 and play Lynch as well.

all the way to Inman to play in a game starting at 6:30.
