Funeral services
for Fr. Francis R. Price, age 82, of Norfolk, formerly of Columbus,
will be held Fri. Mar.10, 2000, 11am at St. Isidore Church in
Columbus. Archbishop Elden Francis Curtiss will officiate. Visitation
is March 9, Thurs. after 4 pm, with a vigil at 7pm and at 10 am until
service time on Fri. at St. Isidore Church. Burial will be in St.
Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus.
Fr. Fancis Price was born April 5, 1917, at Phoenix, to Ernest and Mary (Natchman) Price. He attended rural schools in Holt County and graduated from St. Mary's Academy in O'Neill in 1936. That fall he enrolled in St. Lawrence College, Mt. Calvary, WI, and finished there in June, 1939. The same fall he entered St. Louis Prp Seminary, St. Louis MO. Having concluded his studies there in June of 1941, he entered Kenrick Seminary the following September. After completing the required courses, he was ordained a priest on Dec. 21, 1944. On that date he was appointed assistant pastor at St. Bridgets Church in Omaha and then to St. Michaels Church in South Sioux City. On March of 1954, he was named pastor of the Church of Epiphany in Emmet, with St. Joseph in Amelia as his mission. Here he remained until June 2, 1960, at which time he was directed to serve St. Anthony Parish in Cedar Rapids. On June 13, 1963, Fr. Price became the founding pastor of St. Isidore Parish in Columbus. He served in this parish until June 16, 1983. At that point in time he was assigned to St. Augustine Indian Mission in Winnebago. On Mar. 3, 1988, he was assigned to St. Michael Parish in Albion. His final appointment was associate pastor of St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus on June 14, 1990, until retiring in 1994. He passed away on Sun. Mar. 5, at St. Joseph's Nursing Home in Norfolk.
Surviving him are four brothers, Delmar and wife Evelyn Price of Portland, OR, Joe and wife Evelyn Price of Custer, SD, Fr. Basil Price, S.J. and Stanley D. and wife Alberta Price of Norfolk.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers, Blaine Price, Paul Price, Stephen Price and Fr. Peter Price S.J.
