S YNOPSIS
Babes in Arms is a Rodgers & Hart Broadway Musical. The story line is that of the children of Vaudeville actors who have left their children in Seaport to take care of themselves while the parents decided to leave and produce a vaudeville show. Of course the underlying problem is that all of the children are minors so have basically been deserted and left to figure out a way to support themselves. The story line is in fact a "play within a play" and is staged in that manner. The children decide that in order to survive they will do the only thing they really know much about--and that is to produce their own show. The staging of the show is that of a rehearsal as they develop their own production--as none other than vaudeville actors. Of course the sheriff feels they should be sent to the work farm to live and not be left by themselves. It so happens that Rene Flambeau, a French aviator is flying non stop from Paris to Newark and becomes part of their show. He wins the prize for the flight and donates it to the children--thus they have money and are able to survive after all and their show is moderately successful.
