As the curtain opens, we are back in ancient Egypt. There we meet Ymir, a comical old camel trader who tells us the story of Joseph through a series of flashbacks. Ymir tells how Joseph's brothers hated him and sold him into slavery. Confused by his brothers' betrayal, Joseph realizes that it is not always our place to understand the will of God.
In the second act, Ymir resumes his narration with Joseph's rise to power. Famine comes to the Middle East. Joseph's brothers are forced to come to Egypt to buy food. Joseph agonizes over what he should do when his bothers return to Egypt. He realizes that everything that has happened to him, including his brother's actions, is part of God's overall plan.
In the final scene, Joseph reveals himself to his brothers, forgives them, and calls for celebration.
