"The Fire of 1965"
She was an old building,
Her age was sixty-five.
We remember her distinctly,
So clear and so alive,
She was the stronghold of
knowledge,
she was the memories.
The years of joy and laughter,
And the years of sorrow if any.
Yes, she stood her many years,
Through thick and through thin.
We said good-bye with tears,
As the walls burned within.
I walked past her brick structure,
So many times a day.
And there she would be standing,
Ready to guide my way.
So many of us took her for granted,
As she helped us along.
But one look at her in flames,
We knew we had been wrong.
She was the school my friends
attended,
When we were all together.
But since that awful day,
All of this has ended.
Our beloved school lies in ruin,
I guess it must be that way.
It stood for sixty-five years,
And fell in one short day.
