THE FIRE OF FEBRUARY 16,
1965

This reverently imposing entrance to the old
convent was yielding to the ravages of fire. Rapidly accelerating
flames engulfed the entire building and steady streams of waters
could not match the determined blaze. Tragedy enfolded as the fire
raged and, within the hour, the Angelus bell tower collasped in
consuming flames.
