The threat of war
is upon us once again. Iraq is supposedly equipped with nuclear
weapons, also chemical and biological tools to take out an entire
stadium full of screaming Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans. There are a lot
of different opinions on the war.
Seventh grader Jason Cameron gave his, saying "I think that we should be careful, because Iraq is a very dangerous country with very dangerous allies, and I think a wrong move by the US could result in a very deadly war. And maybe the end of the world. I also think that the US should give the UN more time in Iraq."
Good point, Jason, but Mr. Allen kind of disagrees. He says "It is always a little scary going to war, but if we have to go to war to take out Saddam and protect ourselves, then we have to do it."
So there are different opinions; some people say we have no business even being over there, and some say that we should take immediate action and kill them all.
Others such as Jake Reiman are in between. He says " I think that if we attacked them, we would have all kinds of small countries shoot nuclear bombs at us. Also if we don't attack them soon, I think Iraq will grow stronger and have more time to plan another terrorist attack. I'm also scared of a big World War."
Curt Mahoney brings up an even more scary (for some of us) point. He states "I'm a little worried, because if there is a big war there might be a draft."
What? A draft? But I thought they got rid of the draft after Vietnam! This is when we have to ask ourselves; how far are we going to go with this? Are we going to start pulling out birthdays again?
Just how vulnerable are we? Once thought of as the most dominant country, we now seem weak and on our heels. Maybe George W. thinks that by roughing somebody up we'll regain some of that lost arrogance. It makes me wonder if he really knows what people think of him. Kiel Nuemann says "I think we're bloodthirsty savages who aren't working for a better cause in the world but for dominance among all nations." Good point! Matt Willis feels about the same. He says that " George W. Bush just wants world domination. We should wait until further developments before we take action."
For some people it's hitting close to home. Michelle Shoemaker says " I think it's really scary, because I know a lot of people that are having to go overseas or are being called to action. The thought that the draft may be reinstated effects the people my age, that in itself should frighten everyone."
In review of everything, it seems as if people aren't in favor of the war. There are still a lot of questions to be asked . . . and answered.
