Cheerleading

By Ashley Braun

The St. Mary's cheerleaders, led by captain and head cheerleader, Ashley Braun, were very busy during the football season. The squad planned several pep rallies to pump up the players and fans. The girls took their stunts to a new level of extreme which involved shoulder sits, the one-person stunt, and the basket toss. Ashley Braun, senior and second-year participant, remarked, "I wanted to show this school what we are made of. I don't know if anyone ever thought we'd be able to launch someone fifteen feet in the air - and catch them!" Senior Shannon Holz said, "Football season was a lot of fun with all the spirit and new things Ashley brought into cheering. We did a lot of things that got the crowd and school more involved." Senior and first-time leader of cheer, Mary Kersenbrock, thought back to football season and decided, "Cheerleading has been fun. The crowd seems more involved and that makes it easier to cheer."

We hope to see more of this enthusiasm under the leadership of captain Shannon Holz in basketball season.
