The 2001 O'Neill Cross Country teams hailed five members from St. Mary's High School. These Cardinal members included Dan Ascheral, Zach Ascheral, Tyler Cole, Gina Hoesing, and Kylie Ludemann.

Both teams were successful in their efforts this year. Both the girls and the boys' cross country teams qualified for State competition. The girls place third in districts and the boys placed second and brought home the silver medal. This is the first time since 1989 the Eagle boys' cross country team has made it to state.

Danny Ascheral said, "It was a good season and we had a lot of fun. Everyone worked hard and had a positive attitude." While competing at State the guys finished 11th. The girls also finished well with and eighth place performance. Congratulations goes out to the teams on a terrific season!
