From last report the St. Mary's football team had a record of 4-2. Then they breezed through their next two games with wins over Butte 56-12 and over Ewing 48-0. Their next game was for the district championship against Chambers. This game was a struggle through the first three quarters with the Cardinals trailing 24-25 going into the last quarter of play. However, the Cardinals dominated the last quarter outscoring the Coyotes 24-0 to win the game 48-25.
Next came the first round of the State playoffs against the Hayes Center Cardinals. It was a tough fought game, but with dominant second and fourth quarters in which the Cardinals scored 42 points, the Cardinals won 50-32. The win over Hayes Center advanced St. Mary's into the State quarter finals.
In their Sate quarter final match the Cardinals faced the Sargent Bulldogs. The Cardinals played the Bulldogs tough all gamed but came up short in the end, losing by a score of 14-34.
The Cardinals advanced to the State quarter finals for the first time in 17 years for St. Mary's. The Cardinals finished their season with a record of 8-3. Their only three losses came to teams that reached the State semi-finals with combined records of 32-4. Congratulations to the Cardinals on an excellent season. The Cardinals will be looking forward to next season wit hall 16 starters returning.
