Speech team Bound for State Meet

This year's St. Mary's Speech Team members Lisa Weber, Brandon Straka, Tony Guggenmos, Grace Bahrij, Nicole Hurley, Anne Heitz, Sandra Johnson, Deann Boettcher, and Kylie Cole look forward to state competition on March 23.

At the District Speech Meet in Stuart, on March 13, Tony Guggenmos, Brandon Straka, Grace Bahrij, Nicole Hurley, and Kylie Cole placed first in oral interpretation of drama. Lisa Weber received first place in informative speaking in humorous prose. Anne Heitz and Sandra Johnson placed second in serious prose.

St. Mary's speech team, including Lisa Weber, Brandon Straka, Tony Guggenmos, Kim Boettcher, Grace Bahrij, Nicole Hurley, Sandra Johnson, Anne Heitz, Jenny Morrow, Deann Boettcher, Kylie Cole, Kari Jo Conway, Brian Fuchser, and Carrie Hoesing, competed at the meet.

At the Creighton meet on March 11, Kim Boettcher placed sixth in entertainment speaking.

The team placed third at the Niobrara Valley Conference meet at Butte, on March 6. In humorous prose, Lisa Weber placed first and Brandon Straka placed second. Sandra Johnson and Anne Heitz received first in duet acting. Kylie Cole got second place in poetry and Deann Boettcher got third place in serious prose.

On March 3, at the Norfolk Invitational, a class A meet, Brandon Straka placed sixth in humorous prose.

At Ainsworth, on February 18, St. Mary's placed seventh. In varsity competition , Lisa Weber placed third, Brandon Straka placed fourth, and Sandra Johnson placed seventh in humorous prose. Lisa Weber was also fifth in serious prose. In novice events, Deann Boettcher received third place in serious prose and fifth place in humorous prose. Jenny Morrow got sixth place in serious prose. Kyle Cole received fourth place in poetry. In duet acting, Brian Fuchser and Kari Jo Conway placed fourth.

Other speech team members--Cortney Wettlaufer, Jenny Belik, Corey Schneider, and Misty Butts--participated in speech; however, they did not continue after several meets, and were replaced by Tony Guggenmos, Grace Bahrij, and Nicole Hurley
