Girls are Runners Up At Conference

Weather played havock with the track season this year. Four of the nine meets had to be rescheduled. Despite all the weather problems, the 1994 girls' team has competed effectively. With three meets to go, the girls have been champions three out of six times. The season opened with ten teams competing in the Spencer Early Bird. This was victory one for the girls. Plainview was the next meet where St. Mary's was the only class D school to enter. The team was runner-up to the class B school, Atkinson West Holt. One of the biggest meets of the year was the O'Neill Invitational. Of the eighteen teams at this meet, the girls placed seventh.

After a week's rest, the team competed and won the Clearwater Invitational, their second championship. Because the weather slowed things down, four meets had to be held in three days during the last week of April. This did not hamper the girls who earned their second runner-up trophy at the Niobrara Valley Conference Meet. The next day the team traveled to Spencer where they dominated the meet and came home with a championship plaque.

With only two meets to go and the improvement of the girls each meet, there is a good chance that the girls may be on their way to the State Track Meet in Omaha.
