Middle Names Have Meaning

Why do we have them? What good are they? What do they mean? These are some of the many questions asked about our middle names. How did you get the name you have? That question was asked to some faculty and students and here is what they had to say.

"My parents wanted my first name to start with a consonant and my middle name with a vowel." Frances Ellen Shefl.

Jeffery Allan Winings. "I was named after my dad."

There long stories behind some middle names, for example, Molly Sue Bauer stated, "I think that I got my middle name because my dad's sister died when he was young and her middle name was Sue."

Ruth Margaret McCarville said, "I was named after my mother."

Pam May Bode says that her middle name was a family tradition. There are other middle names that are given for no reason at all. They have no storty behind the choosoing of the name. Stacey Ann Mohony, Andrew Ryan Willis, David James Dougherty, Tony Lee Guggenmous were just randomly picked by their parents.

There are also some very strange stories of how people received their middle names. For instance, Tara Kristina Dougherty stated "I got it from my dad. Mom got to pick put my first name, and and dad got ot choose my middle name…It was his old girlfriends name. Many people have no middle name. Is It really that important? Be proud of your middle name no matter what it is.
