Boys Prepare For Districts

The boys track team is exceeding all expectations for this year. They surprisingly captured runner up honors in the Niobrara Valley Conference by outlasting Spencer-Naper. The team is now looking forward to the district meet where they hope to qualify a long list of athletes for the state meet. On the top of the list is two time state qualifier Mike Steele who has the best time in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. The 400 meter relay team (Mike Steele, David Pongratz, Brian Hoesing, and Zach Zastrow) has the best time in class D in northeast Nebraska and hopes to avoid any mistakes and qualify for state. Others who are at the top or near the top in their events are: Brian Koenig in the pole vault, Brian Hoesing in the long jump, Tim Gokie in the high jump, 110 high hurdles, and 300 intermediate hurdles, and the 1600 meter relay team (Mike Steele, David Pongratz, Brian Hoesing, and Brian Koenig). Many others can qualify if they are able to compete to their ability. Even if the expectations for Districts and State are not met this years team has had a very successful season.
