Mock Trial Excels in Competition

The senior mock trial team did a wonderful job this year. They had quite a scare at first because the team was under the impression that they would have two to three weeks to prepare for their first competition, but in fact, they only had five days. The blue team was composed of Molly Bauer, David Pongratz, Russel Berg, Dave Williamson, Tricia Fuhrer, Cortney Wettlaufer, and Brandon Straka. Their first competition was against Ainsworth. The challenging case this year was about a teenager being charged with MIP, DWI, and consumption of liquor while on a public road. Either they had to try to convict or defend him. S.M.'s first competition portrayed the plaintiff going up against a much more prepared Ainsworth team. Because of this, the team lost a disappointing decision by a very small margin. This was a learning experience, and the team came back and convicted Stuart a week later. This tournament was double elimination. Their second and final loss came, ironically, to the second Ainsworth team. When it was all over, the team felt very confident that they had won, but the judges did not agree.
