Homecoming Spirit Soars Strong and Loud

This year's homecoming week began on Sunday, Sept. 26, with the classes competing in locker decorations and gym signs. There were no classes on Monday, giving the students plenty of time to prepare for Mourning Day, Prehistoric Day, Come-as-you-are Day, and Red and White Day. Thursday night, the school enjoyed the third annual bonfire, in the church parking lot.

Friday was the most eventful day of the week. After mass, many students showed their spirit by painting their faces red and white. During fourth period, the seniors led the school on a Spirit Rush, which consisted of lots of running, Red Rover, farmer and the dell, and other games. At 12:30 the student enjoyed lunch, prepared by the Cardinal Boosters. After lunch, the entire student body gathered in the gym for the traditional pep rally. It included the Cardinal Olympics, car push, yell contest, and the seniors awards skit.

Both varsity volleyball and football teams were victorious over the Stuart Broncos. At halftime of the football game, Tim Gokie and Tricia Fuhrer were crowned Homecoming King and Queen.

The week was capped off Saturday night with the dance, which was held from 9:00 p.m. to midnight. The coronation and naming of the homecoming royal court began at 9:00 p.m. "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" was the theme of the dance, which was a fun ending to an exciting week.
