Seniors See Shakespeare
Monday March 1, 1993
twenty-five seniors, along with sponsors Mrs. Johnson and Mrs.
McCarville, traveled to Mount Marty to view As You Like It. The National
Players of Washington D.C. performed the Shakespearean plan.
"As You Like
It" is the story of two family disputes
that intertwine. The first family consists of Duke Frederick, his
daughter Celia, his brother Duke Senior, and his niece Rosalind. dike
Frederick banishes his brother Duke Senior to the Forest of Arden but
allowed his daughter it remain in the court..
Oliver and Orlando are brothers of the second
family. Oliver deprived Orlando of his rightful inheritance and
forces him to live a life of poverty.
Rosalind and Orlando meet at a wrestling match
where Orlando defeats Duke Frederick the champion. After hinting of
her love for Orlando, Rosalind is also banished from the court
because of her influence over Celia. So the two girls set out for the
Forest of Arden with Rosalind disguised as a young man named Gamymede
and Celia as his sister. Also embarked on journey to the Forest
of Arden is Orlando in search of a new home.
After arriving in the forest, Oliver falls in love
with Celia at first sight, and Orlando arranges for their wedding the
next day. Four couples are married on the morrow, and the Duke Senior
promises to share his good fortune.
The set for this drama was a versatile curtain
directed by ropes to show scene changes, hand props used were a
trunk, a gong, and paper. The lighting also added the the scene
changes. They used two basic colors, silver and blue. The day was
toped off with lunch at Hardee's and a jolly bus ride home.
