Youth to See Pope
On August 10, 1993, approximately forty youth from O'Neill will board buses and be off to Denver, Colorado for World Youth Day. Over 500,000 from all over the world will meet in Denver for this year's World Youth Day. Every two years young people from many different nations are gathered together at a shrine. Two years ago Czestochowa, Poland, was the site for the event. The heart of downtown Denver will be the place and the three shrine churches are The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, St. Elizabeth of Hungry, and The Church of the Holy Ghost. The event will last five days, with the first mass being held at 8:00 p.m. on August 11. many activities are planned for the week, such as various workshops, daily masses, and play productions. Concerts and youth dances will take place in the evenings. The twelve mile pilgrimage to Cherry Creek State Park will begin on August 14. All will spend the night camping there, in waiting, for the final mass of World Youth Day which is personally said by the Pope, thus ending World Youth Day for 1993. The youth will again board buses, with memories enough to last a lifetime.
