'Green' Golf Team Second In Dual

Joining the O'Neill Public Golf Team for the fourth year in a row, St. Mary's sent eight prospective golfers to survey the greens. Kathleen Hayes, a senior returning for her fourth year, joined two fellow seniors from the Public School. Molly Bauer and Russ Berg, two previous letter winners, were varsity team hopefuls for the 1992-1993 school year. Of the eight golfers, five new and aspiring Cardinals challenged the course this season. Sophomore, Tricia Fuhrer, and Freshman, Ryan Berg, Andrea Flaherty, Colin Jensen, and Adam Manoucheri reviewed golf etiquette and rules before perfecting their golf swings.
Thus far, the golf team has been continually successful as in previous seasons. The O'Neill Golf Team placed 2nd in the Plainview Dual and the Plainview Tournament. Russ Berg, one of the top five, scored consistent scores of 43's. O'Neill placed 3rd in the Ord Golf Invitational with Russ Berg scoring 83. At the Neligh Dual, O'Neill won their second dual of the season. Russ Berg scored another consistent 43. Molly Bauer, Ryan Berg, and Adam Manoucheri also scored satisfactory scores in the dual.
Due to vast competitiveness, the majority of St. Mary's team did not qualify in the top ten. As a result, these golfers were unable to play in most of the duals and tournaments. According to Mr. Heibner, the golf coach, student golfers must develop their skills during the summer in order to be successful during the golf season.
As the season progresses, the B-3 District Tournament will be held at Wayne this year. Hopefully, the golfers will cover the greens with envy when they attend the State Tournament at the Lochland Country Club in Hastings
