The purpose of the National Honor society as defined in the constitution is to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of American secondary schools. It represents the fundamental objectives for which the school is instituted and gives recognition to those who have attained most nearly the desired ends. The National Honor Society looks on education as a total product measured by the four dimensions of life. Our aim shall be to hold before the school such motives as shall induce others to aspire to scholarly habits, enlist in worthy service and lead forward in all things that shall advance the welfare of the school and the individual.
Membership in this Society shall be based on scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Candidates shall have spent at least one semester in St. Mary's High School and shall be members of the Sophomore, Junior, or Senior classes. Candidates eligible to the Society shall have a cumulative weighted average of 3.0 or higher. Their eligibility will then be considered on their character, leadership, and service. The selection of the members to this chapter shall be upon the recommendation of the high school faculty council.
