Northeast Hosts Inter-High School Scholastic Contest

Wayne High School garnered first-place honors in the Class C contest of the 23rd Annual Inter-High School Scholastic Contest hosted by Northeast Community College in Norfolk. Over 1,100 students from 42 area Class C and D high schools participated.

In the Class D contest, Stuart High School again won first place. For only the fourth time, the event included a Quiz Bowl with 20 teams from both classes participating. Participating schools from the area included Bartlett,Wheeler Central, Butte, Chambers, Clearwater, Elgin Public and Elgin Pope John XXIII, Ewing, Lynch, O'Neill St. Mary's, Orchard, Spencer-Naper, Springview, Keya Paha, Stuart, Verdigre and Wisner-Pilger.

Students were tested on subjects like accounting I and II, algebra I and II, American government and history,, applied mathematics, art/art history, auto body color tinting, automotive technology, basic construction, biology, business English. business law, calculus, chemistry, computer applications, computer literacy, creative writing-fiction,drafting, and English composition.

Other tests include foods and nutrition. general science, geography, geometry, health, library usages, literature, music, office technology, parenting/child development, personal finance, physical educatian, physics, public speaking, small engines, Spanish I, trigonometry, vocabulary and world history. Students were also be tested in welding (arc), (oxy-acetylene ), and welding (wire).

The first Inter-High Scholastic Contest was held in 1984 with Class C and D schools participating. There were also a few schools in that original contest.
