Sister Quentin Conway, O.S.B., age 99, a Benedictine Sister of Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison, KS, Passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, at the monastery.
Vigil services were held at 7 p.m. on Sunday; Jan. 22, 2006; in the monastery chapel.
Mass ofresurrection was at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at the monastery chapel.
Interment was in the Monastery cemetery.
Arensberg-Pruetty Fuheral Homd of Atchison, KS, was in charge of arrangements.
The Niobrara Valley Conference tournament begins Saturday,with the west half being hosted by Lynch and the east by Wheeler Central. Action will begin at 9 a.m. in Lynch 'with St.Mary's Lady Cardinals taking on the Lynch Lady Eagles. Games run throughout the day every hour and one half. St. Mary's and Chambers boys follow at 10:30 followed by Rock County and Spencer-Naper girls, then Rock County and Lynch boys, Chambers and Keya Paha girls, Spencer-Naper and Keya Paha boys play at 5 p.m. with Stuart boys and girls taking on Butte boys and girls.
In east action first seed Clearwater and eighth seed Elgin girls begin the day at 9 a.m. followed by Verdigre and Clearwater boys. Verdigre and Ewing girls play at noon with Ewing and Niobrara boys to follow. Orchard and Niobrara girls begin at 3:30 p.m. followed by Orchard and Elgin boys. Pope John Central and Wheeler Central girls start at 6:30, p.m. followed by boys action between Pope John Central and Wheeler Central.
Action will continue throughout the week with games on Jan. 31 and Feb. 2 with finals being held on Feb. 4 at West Holt High School. Games begin at 2 p.m. in consolation play.
Sister Quentin was born Jan. 7, 1907, in Dixon, to Martin and Bertha (McAllister) Conway. She was postmistress in Panama, Iowa, before she entered her religious community in 1934. She received her bachelor's degree in education, with minors in history and library science from Mount St. Scholastica College in Atchison, KS, and taught in more than 20 schools staffed by her religious community in Iowa, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri. Sister Quentin's longer service included years at St. Anthony, St. Joseph, Christ the King and Sacred Heart schools in Kansas City, Sts. Peter and Paul in Seneca, KS, and St. Malachy in Cres,ton, Iowa. At her retirement, she had been a librarian at the State of Kansas Youth Centier in Atchison, KS.
Sister Quentin is survived by nieces, nephews and her religious community.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Alice in 2003.
