Sunday, Jan. 22,, the HTC Youth Task Force met at 5:00 p.m. at the
Public Library. The night was opened with speeches by students
running for Chamber of Commerce positions from OHS and SMH. The
speeches from OHS were given by Taylor Lind, Emily Sallach, Heath
Lichty, Jordan Whitney and Shaylee Thompson. Avery Schneider and
Davida Butterfield were the candidates from SMH. Candidates from both
schools were awarded with a special flower for running in the
election. Emily Saliach and Avery Schneider are our HTC Youth Chamber
of Commerce Representatives.
Heath Lichty and Jacy Schmeical also ran for Park Board Liaison, and Heath Lichty was chosen to be our representative.
The executive positions were recognized and speeches will be given from the candidates at the next meeting. President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary/News Reporter are the positions open for all youth.
Jordan Whitney gave an ASAP (Area Substance Abuse Prevention)
report about their last meeting, and he said that the 1000 surveys about alcohol and drug abuse were proofed and edited. The group is looking for someone to give radio announcements and someone to write articles in the newspaper about their meetings and events.
Jordan Peterson was recognized for the Leta Hollingworth Award he received through Nebraska Association for the Gifted for his accomplishments in music.
After the meeting, all members who were able, stayed and pack envelopes for the surveys being sent out by ASAP. Those who stayed after to help are greatly appreciated. Pizza was provided for those who stayed to help.
The next HTC meeting will be on Feb. 5, at 5:00 p.m. at the public library: The executive candidates will be giving speeches. After February, the group plans to only meet once a month besides a possible additional meeting when the date of an important event is approaching.
