Lady Cards Slip With Pope John, Rebound At Keya Paha

St. Mary's lost in a close one to Pope John on Friday, Jan. 6, 40-45. St. Mary's led at the half 30-23 on strong defense and good shooting. St. Mary's trailed 15-12 at the end of the first quarter and then outscored Pope John 18-8 in the second. The third quarter was an excellent opportunity for the Cards to increase their lead. Pope John was only able to score four points in the quarter but St. Mary's only could muster three points. Pope John got hot in the. fourth quarter and hit three, three-, pointers and was clutch from the free throw line in outscoring the Cards 22-11 in the fourth.
"The girls saw a lot of missed opportunities when they watched film on this game Monday at practice, this was a game we should have won and let slip away from us," said Coach Allen.
The Cards were led; by Jenna; Connot with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Jacquie Stowell added 16 points. Liz Willis had eight points;' seven rebounds and five steals.
The Lady Crusaders were led by Kylie Hoefer with 17 points: Megan Beckman and Kelly Starman each added 11 points.
St. Mary's vs. Keya Paya
Saturday night the Lady Cards rebounded against Keya Paha with a 49-31 win in Springview. In a game that was rough and ragged, St. Mary's was able to jump but to 7-0 1ead early and use numerous small bursts to lead 29-15 at the half. The third and most of the fourth quarter were much of the same with the lead getting up , to 49-23 before Keya Paha's subs closed the gap in the last couple of minutes to the final score.
The Lady Cards were led by Liz Willis and Anne Kersenbrock with 15 points each. Jacquie Stowell; added eight points. Liz Willis and,. Sloane Schneider each had five steals.
Keya Paha was led by Margo Larsen with 10 points and Kylee Hitchcock with eight points.
