Lady Red Birds Win Verdigre Holiday Tourney

St. Mary's defeated the Lynch Eagles and the Verdigre Hawks on their way to winning the tournament. The Lady Cards defeated Lynch 68-34 behind good shooting and a good effort on the boards. St. Mary's shot 44% and had a 22 rebound edge on the Eagles. St. Mary's led 24-12 at the half and outscored the Eagles 44-22 in the second half.

Leading the way for the Cards was Liz Willis with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Jenna Connot had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Anne Kersenbrock and Jacquie Stowell added 10 and 11 points. Ashley Vandersnick also had a nice game with six points, eight rebounds and five blocks.

The Eagles were led by Abbie Hadenfeldt with 10 points.

On Thursday, the Lady Cards defeated the Lady Hawks 79-36. A strong second halt that had the Lady Cards outscore their opponent 43-17 pushed the lead which was 17 at the half, 36-19. The Cards shot 43% to the Hawks 27%. The Cards played their best game fundamentally with 24 assists to only 12 turnovers.

Leaders of the Lady Cards were Liz Willis with 18 points, Anne Kersenbrock 13 points, Jaquie Stowell 11 points and Jenna Connot with 10 points. Ashley Vandersnick led the team with eight rebounds and six blocks. The bench for the Cards was excellently led by Carol Koenig with eight points and Meghan Boyle with six points.

The Lady Hawks were led by Stephani Pierce eight points and Bobbi Morse with seven rebounds.
