Mary Jo Gallagher

Mary Jo Gallagher, age 69, of O'Neill, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2005, at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill.

Visitation was held from 6-9 p.m. on Monday, May 30, 2005, at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill with an 8 p.m. Rosary.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill. Rev. Francis Nigh and Rev. Eric Olsen officiated the service. Music was provided by the St. Patrick's Choir accompanied by pianist, Paula Havranek.

Pallbearers were Curt Mahony, Mike Mahony, Mark Mahony, Pat Mahony, Nick Ramold and John Boyle.

Interment was in the O'Neiil Calvary Cemetery.

Biglin's Mortuary; Inc. of O'Neill was in charge of arrangements. Mary Jo was born Jan. 26, 1936, near Cedar Rapids, to Charles and Katheryn Mahony. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in O'Neill in 1953. She attended St. Catherine's School of Nursing in Omaha and graduated in 1956.

On Aug. 24, 1957, she married Jim Gallagher. Together they raised seven children on a ranch outside of Inman before moving to O'Neill in 1982.

Mary Jo worked as a nurse at St. Anthony's Hospital, in the O'Neill Public Schools, at the Stuart Nursing Home and at Valley Hope. In retirement she enjoyed flower gardening, playing cards, and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Legion of Mary and belonged to the St. Patrick's Sewing Circle.

Mary is survived by her husband,

Jim of O'Neill; sons, Greg Gallagher and wife Sue of Page and Dan Gallagher of Omaha; daughters, Mary Gallagher of St. Paul, MN, Kate Mackey and husband Kurt of Chicago, IL, Maura Gallagher of Omaha, Michaela Pearce and husband Leo of St. Paul, MN, and Monica Simons and husband Hans of North St. Paul, MN; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Charlene Boyle and husband Dick of York, Pauline Carr and husband Jim, and Rosemary Cooley, both of Harrisonville, MO, Aggie Halverson and husband Paul of Hardin, MT, Sister Colleen Mahony of Manderson, SD, Theresa Parker and husband Gary of Topeka, KS, Maureen Rohde and husband Frank, Bette Boyle and husband Ed, arid Karen Ramold, all of O'Neill; brothers, Charles Mahony and wife Diane of Spalding, Pat Mahony and wife Elva of Ord, and Mike Mahony and Kevin Mahony and wife Patti, of O'Neill; in-laws, Marilyn and Vance Park of New York, Edie of Omaha, and Ed and Kathy of Colorado; and , many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers-in-law, Nick Ramold of O'Neill, and Ron Cooley of Harrisonville, MO.

Memorials may be directed to the retirement fund far the Sisters of St. Francis or St. Mary's School.
