Lenora H. Puckett
Lenora Helen Puckett, age 99, of Atkinson, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Center in Atkinson.
Visitation was held from 3-8 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2005, with a 7 p.m. prayer service followed by a PEO service at Seger Funeral Home in Atkinson,
Funeral services were held at i i a.m. on Monday, April 11, 2005, at the SegerFuneral Home in Atkinson with graveside services at 2 p.m. at the O'Neill Cemetery in O'Neill. Pastor Wayne Owens officiated the service. Music was provided by soloist, Erin Outson accompanied by organist, Terri Vrooman.
Pallbearers were Wilmer, Vic, Pat, Larry and Dick McConnell and Dan Saunto,
Seger Funeral Home, Inc. of Atkinson was in charge of arrangements.
Lenora was born Oct. 29, 1905, in Emmet, to Alex and Hattie (Wheeler) McConnell, She was the oldest of six children. Lenora graduated high school from St. Mary's Academy, She wanted to become a nurse, but she didn't think money was available so she spent the rest of her life caring for her family.
She married Walter Puckett(also from the Emmet community) as the St. John's Lutheran Church parsonage in Atkinson an June 1, 1932, Rev. William Vahle officiated the ceremony. They moved to a ranch in the Emmett community; which they eventually purchased. She maintained a welcoming home, preparing meals for hired men and caring for everyone around her. It was while living on this ranch that their children two children were born: The family moved to Atkinson in the fall of 1949 to the home where she lived until moving to the Atkinson Good Samaritan Center in 2000.
Lenora enjoyed baking bread with friends and neighbors y often the recipients, and was a collector of recipes. She was also known for her burnt sugar cake, candy making and doughnuts on Halloween. For many years she had a beautiful garden, with iris that she particularly enjoyed. She passed along rhubarb and iris to many. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, PEO Chapter BU, the Iris Society, South Side Improvement Club and Goldenrod Garden Club.
Lenora is survived by her daughter, Lois Wilson and husband Doug of Lincoln; son, James Puckett of Atkinson; four grandchildren: seven great-grandchildren; sister, Peg Saunto of O'Neill; sisters-in-law, Audrey Kruse of Chambers, and Kay Johnson Puckett of Lincoln-, and many niece and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter of 48 years; infant son, Richard; two brothers; and one sister.
