Lowery Day, age 52, of O'Neill, formerly of Norfolk, passed away
Sunday morning, June 27, 2004, at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in
O'Neill.
Visitation was from 5-9 p.m., with an 8 p.m., Rosary, on Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.
Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill with Reverend Jay Kruse officiating. Music was provided by St. Patrick's Choir accompanied by Susan Kramer, organist.
Pallbearers were Mike Yantzi, Bob Miles, Jerry Miles, Clint Zastrow, Tim Gray and M.J. Kersenbrock.
Interment was in the O'Neill Calvary Cemetery in O'Neill. Biglin's Mortuary, Inc., was in charge of arrangements.
Marilyn, daughter of Robert and Mary (Miles) Lowery, was born on May 9, 1952, at Norfolk. She attended St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from St. Mary's High School in O'Neill. Following graduation, Marilyn attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology.
She married Robert Day on June 20, 1987, in O'Neill. He passed away in 1990. For the past 30 years, Marilyn worked at the Department of Health and Human Services at Norfolk until her retirement on Sept. 29, 2003.
At the age of 11, she was diagnosed with diabetes and since that time has been the recipient of both a kidney and a pancreas transplant and was currently waiting to receive a new kidney. Marilyn enjoyed baking, and her most recent love was caring for her garden, which was already showing abundant produce, which she loved to share with others. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her niece and nephews and her great-niece and great-nephew. She will be missed by all of those that loved her.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and St. Patrick's Altar Society in O'Neill and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Norfolk. Marilyn was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 50 years.
Marilyn is survived by her parents, Robert and Mary Lowery of O'Neill; two sisters Carol Hill and her husband Ernie of Casper, WY, Tish Chaney and her husband Doug of O'Neill; one niece, two nephews, one great-niece and one great-nephew.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents and her husband. Memorials may be directed to Avera St. Anthony's Dialysis Unit or to St. Mary's Schools.
