Funeral services for J.B. "Ben" Grady, age 84, of O'Neill,
were held on Tues., June 6, 2000, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in
O'Neill. Burial was in the O'Neill Cemetery. The Mass and burial were
officiated by Rev. Mark Filips, assisted by Rev. Doughlas Scheinost.
Pallbearers were David Cole, Steve Flaherty, M.J. Kersenbrock, Jim
Rabe, all of O'Neill, Mike Hammond of Norfolk and Geoff Hammond of
Omaha.
Music was provided by Ruth McCarville, organist and the St. Patrick's Funeral Choir and the St. Patrick's Contemporary Choir.
Ben Grady was born on May 15, 1916, in O'Neill to Henry and Mary (Hayes) Grady. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1933 and started working at the O'Neill National Bank in 1934. He spent 51 years at the bank, retiring as president in 1985.
He married Nancy Pray of Fort Dodge, IS, on Jan. 17, 1949. They have lived in O'Neill ever since. He was active in the Knights of Columbus, St. Patrick's Catholic Church and his beloved O'Neill Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; two sons and their spouses, James and Valerie Grady of Annapolis, MD, John and Susan Grady of Nashville, TN; two grandchildren, Karina and Shannon Grady of Nashville, TN; and one brother, John Grady of Washington, DC.
He was preceded in death by brothers Harry and William and sisters Deretha and Geneva.
