St. Mary's 1968-1980

St. Mary's, in many ways, made me who I am today. I carry my experiences with me in my daily life and value the education I received from the teachers there. The teachers were dedicated to making us better students and being the best at whatever we wanted to be.

I could go on forever about the memories I have of St. Mary's and probably even write a bestseller, but a few stick out the most.

1st GRADE: Although getting up early for the first time was difficult, I quickly adjusted and jumped right in to Mrs. Etherton's first grade class where we learned how to make rocking horses.

2nd GRADE: Sister Thoma prepared us for our First Holy Communion, and I was allowed to wear my dirty, grungy tennis shoes in the front row of our picture (I had my good ones in the coat room and forgot to change). We were precious little angels.

3rd GRADE: Mrs. Arbuthnot taught us how to spell words we had never heard before.

4th GRADE: Sister Anna Mary had a calming effect on us and kept us interested in reading a lot, and read to us as well.

5th GRADE: Mrs. White introduced us to science. We had a science fair and all became scientific whizzes.

6th GRADE: Mr. Shifflett got us ready to take the plunge into Jr. High.

7th GRADE: Sister Adeltrude kept us entertained with her stories and heavy accent.

8th GRADE: Mrs. Etherton decided once was not enough and took the challenge to teach us once again.

9th GRADE: I finally got to play sports. We had a girls basketball team and didn't win any games but had a great time and learned the game.

10th GRADE: We had a great basketball and volleyball team. Mr. Stuart had us in stitches all of the time and he loved us.

11th GRADE: We had good basketball and volleyball teams again this year. Our teams participated in state tournaments. We got to go to prom and other fun parties.

12th GRADE: The time went so fast. We graduated from St. Mary's as one of the closest classes ever and went out to meet the world on our own.

St. Mary's taught me that I can achieve any goal I set with a little effort. The knowledge was there to learn, but the most I hold dear to me are the things that books can't teach. I still remain close to my friends from St. Mary's. We may not see each other very often but when we do it is like we saw each other yesterday, and we relive our happy memories.

The sisters were very good to us and helped us learn things on our own through teaching and discipline, and all influenced me in many ways.

The personnel were also fantastic role models for us and helped us to become better Christians. Miss B's Humanities class is the best class I have ever had including the University level.

St. Mary's is a different kind of school, and its uniqueness is intangible. I do feel blessed that God gave me the parents that I have to put me through such a wonderful and superior place of learning.
