A Note . . .

. . . from J. Ben Grady Class of 1933 Box 26, O'Neill, Nebr. 68763

This Basketball team of 1933 was the first St. Mary's team to win a District Tournament. They defeated Niobrara in the finals of the Tournament held in Butte by the score of 29 to 23. In the regional playoff, they were defeated by Oakdale 28 to 22. Their record for the year was 23 wins and 2 losses.

An interesting memento for the year: St. Mary's had a new Mother Superior appointed. She attended one of the first games and afterward issued an order that Beha and Grady were to go each afternoon to the kitchen, where they would be given a glass of milk, and one of St. Mary's famous buns loaded with peanut butter. She thought that they were too thin to be playing and wanted to help them put on some weight. The other team members were pretty envious.
