Class of 1936

I remember when we moved from Stuart, Nebraska, to O'Neill, my parents were so delighted that we children would be able to attend school at St. Mary's Academy. The sisters, my teachers, would ask for me to stand up, and then they would identify me as niece to Sr. Constance, or Laurissa, or Casilda. Then they would say, "We will pray for you that you have a vocation, like you dear aunties." I was afraid they would pray me into a vocation and I didn't want to be a sister!

I remember the beautiful hallway at St. Mary's going up to the chapel. The lonely big ferns and it was always so clean and shining. And at Christmas time, just before vacation each grade stood in the hallway and sang Christmas carols.
