1999 was a watershed year. It marked the passing of Sister Antonella, class of 1922, and Sister George, class of 1927. For most of this century they were a part of St. Mary's and they touched many lives.
As young girls they were boarders at St. Mary's and they were among the 63 young girls that entered the Franciscan Order from St. Mary's. They taught grammar and literature and typing and normal training and French and Spanish - but most of all they taught by example to say "yes" to life graciously and to live life joyfully. Whatever they were asked to do, they did. Long after retirement age they continued to climb up and down stairs to teach and to tutor. They lettered and they typed - bulletins and banners. They brought humor and hope and faith into the innumerable lives they touched.
Their spirit is representative of the nearly two hundred Franciscan Sisters who have served St. Mary's throughout this century. To them all, we offer our fond memories and deepest gratitude.
