The golden stairways in the "new" addition were highly polished disappeared onto a landing bedecked with greenery. Students rarely used the golden stairs; instead their busy feet wore furrows on other steps. The Golden stairways which remained intact during the fire were credited with preventing total collapse of the "new" addition.
