St. Mary's stood for sixty five years but
crumbled in one day because of a fire which swept the building.
Before this fire, I had always taken my school for granted. I had
never through about how much the Sisters sacrifice to teach the
children passing through St. Mary's.
Sixty five years ago, the Sisters of St. Francis founded our school and called it St. Mary's after our Blessed Mother. This was originally an Academy for Catholic Girls of this community and adjoining areas. By keeping Boarders and charging a small tuition fee, the Academy remained self-supporting with no help from the Parish. Later boys were admitted. This is a short history of our beloved school.
St. Mary's has given us something that fire or any other form of destruction can never take away from us. We have gained not only knowledge form the devoted teachers at St. Mary's, but also memories, happy and sad, which are ours to cherish forever.
St. Mary's has been and will always be a great institution of learning. It has turned out mature men and women of good moral character who are able to accept responsibility.
St. Mary's has burned down, but in a larger sense it lives on in the lives of all its past students. I believe that St. Mary's has made the world a better place in which to live.
