St. Mary's Planning
New School Building;
Ruins To Be
Scrapped
Announcement was made
this week that St. Patrick's Parish had retained the firm of Boyer
and Biskup as architects to plan a new grade school building. This
is the same firm that did the work on the new convent and the school
for St. Mary's.
The Parish announced
that the insurance adjusters reported the building as a total loss
and that if the school had to be replaced at present day costs it
would run over $1 million dollars. The old school and convent had a
total of 70,000 square foot of space.
The insurance on the
building totaled $307,000 and contents were $39,000. The parish had
not received word from the insurance company on an official
settlement or what it will be.
At the present time
St. Patrick's is taking bids on wrecking the ruins. They have
received several bids already and expect to have all bids in by the
end of the week and a contract signed for the wrecking of the old
buildings.
